your personalized day

shared text introduction & info

To start we want to offer a big "Thank you for booking!" Being a small independent guide service we appreciate you trusting us with your valuable vacation time. Goes without saying you are in good hands, Rio Epic guides are some of the best in the industry.

At this point you will have received a shared text introducing you to your guide and clicked the link to this page. If missed something or have additional questions just ask.

Your shared text will include your guides contact info, the trip booked, date of trip, how many are fishing, meeting time & location as well as the meeting time. A pin for the meet location will also be sent.

If the meet is at your hotel, B&B or vacation rental we'll ask you confirm the address and send a pin.

This will also be a prime opportunity to remind your guide of any diet requests, goals for the day or concerns.

Reminder Rio Epic guide trips are strictly catch and release. We see them as our coworkers! There are local grocery stores that have fresh trout.

gear & stuff

what we'll have & what you should

Your Rio Epic guide will supply all your gear (no extra cost). If you have your own awesome, and you are welcome to bring it along. Guides will have rods, flies, tackle and extra water. On wade trips waders & boots. Just let us know your height and foot size.

Guests please dress for southwest weather depending on the season. Remember temps can drop during storms even in the summer. Rain jackets, hat, sunglasses and personal water bottle. Phone for photos and access to fishing license. A Colorado or New Mexico fishing license is required. If you are not sure ask your guide on the text string.

On full day trips your guide will have a yummy lunch as well as drinks. However, feel free to bring along some of your favorites to toss in the cooler.

1/2 Day trips include extra water and a light snack. Extended 1/2 day trips are available for an extra $50. We can provide lunch on the extended day and is included in the $50. Please include this request in advance. We can not offer lunches when requested the morning of the trip. Just let us know on the group text.

guide fees, payments & tips

simple payments and gratuities

We accept checks, cash, Venmo and Zelle. We also accept credit cards that will be processed at the REO office. A payable invoice with the option to use a credit card or an ACH debit from a bank account can be provided. All methods are secure. Please note credit cards will have a 3% fee added. The bank debit is fee-free.

Gratuities are typically given to the guides in cash at the end of the trip. Tips help the guides with the numerous expenses that are involved in each guide day. Lunch, fuel, flies, gear, shuttles, boat and trailer maintenance to name just a few.

Tipping is very similar to the restaurant industry. If you enjoyed your day 18% to 20% of the trip cost (not including the $50 for tax) is a solid starting point and base for a good tip. If you had an outstanding trip, many of our guests will go above and beyond.

Friendly reminder last minute cancellations and no-shows will be responsible for the entire guide fee or the balance remaining on any deposit. Please visit our cancellation policy.

Fishing License Info

New Mexico

When booking a trip on the San Juan River (all sections below Navajo Reservoir) you will need a New Mexico fishing license. Purchases are handled by an authorized vendor, phone or online. Grabbing a license online helps fast track guide trips to the river, saving valuable fishing time.

Season (April 1 thru March 31 of next year)

Age: 12 and up will need a New Mexico Fishing license.

Phone: TOLL FREE TELEPHONE 888-248-6866 Monday-Friday 8am to 5PM

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A PRINTER, SAVING IT TO AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE IS ALSO OK. Either way you must have the license on your person.

Colorado

When booking a Colorado guide trip (including private waters) you will need a Colorado fishing license. You can grab your license at a retail vendor, CPW office, by phone or online (easiest).
